Style Icons: Fashion Bloggers

Gala Darling
In celebration of the new year I have put together a collection of ten fashion blogger style icons that I find particularly inspirational. After the jump you will find some of my favorite images from each of the bloggers, links to their blogs as well as a little blurb about who they are, what they do and why I love their style. Feel free to leave comments with links to some of your favorite bloggers (my RSS feed reader is always hungry for more)!

Gala Darling
Gala Darling is a twenty-seven year old lifestyle blogger originating from New Zealand and currently living in New York City. She is one of the originators of the Things I Love Thursday meme, regularly pushes her readers to practice radical self-love, occasionally models, she also shares outfit photos on a semi-regular basis. I have been reading Gala Darling’s blog (formerly known as iCiNG) since spring 2007. As cliché as it may sound she is an inspiration to me. It is unlikely that I would be half as adventurous or spontaneous as I am now if I hadn’t found a blog like iCiNG when I did. Whether you care for the changes that it has gone through in the past two years or not, I still really enjoy it. I may still abhor wearing bright color dominated outfits, but I very much enjoy the way she mixes hot pink, black and skulls.

Zoetica Ebb
Zoetica Ebb is an artist, photographer, model and 1/3 of the Coilhouse Magazine editor team. I first discovered Zoetica through her What’s Zo Wearing? outfit posts over on Suicide Girls back in 2007. (The feature continued on Coilhouse‘s website before taking up permanent residence on her own blog under the name Style Dispatch.) Her outstanding blue hair and layering skills had me hooked immediately. I keep reading Zoetica’s blog Biorequiem not just because her art enraptures me, not only because she still has mad layering skills but mostly because she is the perfect example of someone being as weird as they want to be, working as hard as possible and being able to live. She may not have the luxury of free time, but no one could look at Zoetica’s life and say she isn’t truly living.

Nubby Twiglet
Nubby Twiglet is a graphic designer and artist from Portland, Oregon. That is the simple explanation of Ms. Twiglet though. In reality Nubby Twiglet is a walking, talking, breathing, living and working version of the graphics that she designs for a living. Her house, her wardrobe, her personality, down to the minute details follow the same rules and style that she designs with. Black, white, textures, graphics, typography, with pops of red and yellow dominate Nubby’s world. I have never seen anyone else this dedicated to her own style of expression, it is an amazing thing to witness.

Albinwonderland
Angelina “Albinwonderland” is an artist from Canada. She probably doesn’t really qualify as a “fashion” blogger per se, but she is someone to keep your eye on. Anyone that has frequented hair dying communities (especially ones focused on pink hair) in recent years will immediately recognize her trademark pale pink hair (she mixes Special Effects Atomic Pink with conditioner to give it the pale pink that lasts). Give her enough time and a few extra resources, this girl could run the world.

Kelly Framel
Kelly Framel, a.k.a. The Glamourai, is a fashion stylist hailing from Texas, currently living it up in New York City. If you have a Christmas bonus still burning a hole in your pocket you can shop Kelly’s closet on Shrimpton Couture. If you have a little less free flowing cash you can pick up a piece of her Kelly Framel jewelry that she handcrafted. Fellow interior design nerds need to take a look at her Apartment Therapy feature because her home is astounding.

Amelia Arsenic
Amelia Arsenic does everything, she might even build space stations. She is the front woman for the band Angelspit, designs jewelry for her Miss.X jewelry division, has her own cosmetics line Miss.X Cosmetics, she recently became a clothing designer with A is for Arsenic, she is a graphic designer, a traditional artist, does alt modelling and is a talented makeup artist. I honestly don’t know when she finds the time to sleep.

Yume Ninja
I met Yume through this blog and she is amazing. She is a model, mixed media artist, one half of the Los Angeles event planning team Bubble Punch and is very handy when armed with glitter and spikes.

Nikki Moose
Nikki Moose is the woman behind one of my favorite blogs, .dirtyflaws.. That blog and Haute Macabre are what inspired me to start a Tumblr to collect all of my favorite goth fashion images anyway. Nikki is an East Coaster that is known for her DIY adventure and her Blood is the New Black clothing collaborations.

Jazzi McG
Jazzi McG is a freelance fashion writer (for such things as Nylon magazine, Teen Vogue, Fashionista.com, etc.). She also does freelance styling work and puts together some fantastic DIY tutorials.

Zana Bayne
I am admittedly very late in the game when it comes to being a Zana Bayne fan, but I am glad that I finally began reading her blog. The things this woman can do with leather blows me away on a constant basis. Her layering skills with clothing consistently blows me away.

I think it would be nice to be able to wear extravagant hats, and gloves, and all these extravagant clothes and not be on the street and not be mocked for it or questioned why. … If you wear a fantastic hat during the day in the street people say ‘where are you going? why are you dressed like that?’ and it’s maybe the most annoying question in the world. Why do we have to have a reason to dress up or to be glamorous or to have fun? Why do we have to have a reason for it? I hate it when people ask me why. Why not?
